Tesla IPO
I typically use the blog just for film stuff but I do dip in the occasional economics and stock mode and thought I'd share.
I've been watching Tesla for awhile. As they struggled, built, struggled and eventually built a car with a lot of problems and a company with more executive swaps than Chrysler. The news of an IPO excited me as it seems they are getting their act together and could be a great investment.
Then this happens. That looks surprisingly similar to GM's Hy-Wire from the early 21st century. Yes, many automakers use one platform for multiple vehicles. None of those vehicles use alternate propulsion and none have had the same trouble the Tesla Roadster did. If GM can't make it into reality, I doubt Tesla can.
The recent partnering with Toyota got me excited as it looked like Tesla could become the Lotus of electrics - consult and design for the main profits. Unlike Lotus, I wouldn't mind seeing Tesla not diverge into production and instead become the leader in consumer electric propulsion selling IP to all the major automakers.
If the IPO does hit on the 28th, it's going to be a no go for me I guess. Give me a few more days to mull it over.
